McKAYS, 138 ATHOLL ROAD
McKays is one of a whole host of eating and drinking establishments that line Pitlochry's main street. Their 'Och Aye McKay' leaflet tells us that it's the place to go for 'an evening of Scottish entertainment', like ceilidh dancing, pipers piping, and all that sort of stuff. It's also the place that offers 'Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties' soup, a soup that I have to say merits ten out of ten where originality is concerned. If you don't fancy a liquid Burns Supper then you could have 'Tomato and Vegetable' or other soups on offer. There's no real ale in here, but if you're just in for the soup then that doesn't really matter. Enjoy your Heederum-Hoderum Experience (there's that phrase again!).

THE SCOTTISH DELI, ATHOLL ROAD
You instinctively know when you're in the best food shop in town, and the Scottish Deli is most certainly it. This is one of those outstanding delicatessens full of every manner of intriguing foodstuff imaginable. There are no tables, but you can buy soup to take away, and it will most certainly be good soup, no question about that. Their leaflet gives a few of their soup varieties, like 'Lentil', 'Vegetable Broth', 'Carrot and Coriander', 'Tomato with Red Pepper and Roasted Garlic' (mmm), 'Butterbean with Rosemary and Isle of Mull Cheddar' (mmmmmm), or 'Yellow Split Pea'. You can also order a bread roll filled with whatever you like, made right there in front of you. Roll fillings include, 'Pastrami with deli mustard, salad leaves and gherkins', 'Hummus with roasted red peppers.' and many others. This is a superb shop, and I highly recommend it.

VICTORIA'S COFFEE SHOP, 45 ATHOLL ROAD
Victoria's is a fairly large establishment on Pitlochry's main street. It's cool inside on a hot summer's day, and you may slurp such soups as 'Chicken, Potato and Leek.'
