THE RUMBLIN' TUM, HIGH STREET
The Rumblin' Tum is a popular coffee shop and restaurant in Moffat where you may partake of soups like
'Cauliflower' or 'Carrot and Butterbean'. Some locals would say this is the
best in the town.
ADAMSON'S COFFEE HOUSE, HIGH STREET
Another warm and cosy place offering such delights as 'Cream of
Celery and Cheese' or 'Lentil' or 'Potato' soups. Usually three on each
day. Other locals would say this is the best in the town. Take your pick
between The Rumblin' Tum and Adamson's, although I dare say others might
say that the Cafe Ariette was the best, or even the Annandale Arms Hotel. We
all thankfully have different tastes, and to make sure you find the
right place for you I would recommend having two bowls of soup in each
of the four establishments, although not all on the same day. Perhaps
spread it over a week, then decide.
ANNANDALE ARMS HOTEL, HIGH STREET
I don't normally mention hotels in the Soup page as most can be
relied upon to come up with a pretty good bowl of soup, and it
is coffee houses and cafes that I feel deserve a lot of praise.
But, what the heck is life for if you can't occasionally change
your mind and make an exception. The Annandale Arms Hotel is, of
course, a hotel, but it's a nice one, and in its prim and proper
interior you may slurp soups like 'Spicy Carrot and
Parsnip'. (Check the Ale page.)
CAFE ARIETTE, HIGH STREET
A traditional old Italian cafe offering 'Chicken and Sweetcorn'
soup and other varieties. Just one soup a day. Inside it somehow manages
to combine a modern vibrancy with a good hint of a refined old age. 'Ariette'
is Italian for 'ram', which is very much a symbol of Moffat both in the
past and today, as seen with the Victorian Colvin Fountain in the middle
of the High Street. A good cafe.
