WHERE TO FIND GOOD ALE IN BALQUHIDDER'S BEST PUBS
THE KINGS HOUSE HOTEL
This hotel sits just off the main A84(T) road that runs between nearby Callander and Lochearnhead, about two miles east of what you might term the centre of Balquhidder, although Balquhidder doesn't really have a centre and is very much spread out on the hilly slopes above the River Balvaig. It's an old inn with a cosy old bar - The Rob Roy Bar - where you can rest your legs and warm your toes at the real fire. There's a huge musketty gun above the fire, antlers, tartan upholstery, and even a wooden bust of Rob Roy, all of which come together in a mildly heuchtery-teuchtery but nonetheless fairly pleasant way. There was no real ale on tap at my visit, although they did have bottles of Deuchars.

[NOTE - There is also an excellent gift shop beside The Kings House Hotel, and amongst the many lovely things that you can buy is a book on The Rob Roy Way.]
